Teaching Productive Skills
In this session, we look at the opportunities to develop the productive skills of speaking and writing through practical approaches and activities that we can employ to exploit expand on these resources. We also use these activities as opportunities to explore the promotion of positive attitudes to maximise learning in our classrooms.
Testing Language Skills - Assessment for Learning
In formal education a lot of emphasis is placed on Assessment of Learning, where we test a learner’s knowledge and skills in order to decide if the student has passed a course or exam. Perhaps more important for teachers and learners is Assessment for Learning in which teachers use a variety of methods to gather information about their learners’ knowledge and skills. Teachers then use the information to identify ways in which they can promote future learning. In this session we explore practical ways for teachers to implement the principles of Assessment for Learning in their own classrooms.
Each of the sessions aims to support your creativity and experimentation as a teacher, providing ideas and some inspiration to expand and develop your professional practice. It provides practical ideas that you can apply in your classes immediately and also ideas you may wish to consider and develop over time.
